Jono Howarth joins new team

Jonathan Howarth from Blacker Hill near Barnsley has joined forces with Team Green/G&S Racing to contest the 2011 National Superstock 1000 championship that takes place at venues throughout the UK as a support to the British Superbike championship.

The 27-year-old Sheffield Fire Fighter began his motorcycle racing career in 2003 when, in his only race of the year, he won the novice class and finished eighth overall out of a 38 strong field at Mallory Park.

This result encouraged Jono to branch out and the following year he entered and won the Derby Phoenix club F600 novice championship.

Although plagued with mechanical breakdowns and crashes that were out of his control he ended the 2005 Derby Phoenix F600 championship in a very respectable third place.

The way forward was to progress to the Superstock 1000 class and he entered the 2006 National Superstock Cup.

Although this was a huge learning curve he managed to complete the season in a creditable 13th place. His best result of the season was fourth at Oulton Park where he narrowly missed out on a podium position and was rewarded for his sterling effort by being awarded "Man of the Meeting".

The following year went well for the Barnsley rider who scored championship points in every round with the exception of four mechanical breakdowns, to end the season in a very respectable fifth place which, in this 13 round championship was a great achievement.

In 2008 Howarth made the step up to the highly competitive National Superstock championship where his best result of the season was 13th.

Learning more experience with every outing, he progressed to a best result of 12th the following year and despite three team changes managed to end the season with a best race result of 13th.

2010 saw Howarth contest the North West 200 for the first time and he completed the Superbike race in a very respectable 23rd position followed up by a 21st out if 65 entrants in the Superstock event.

Now signed to ride for Team Green/G&S Racing in the National Superstock championship Howarth is anticipating some top results in 2011 and said: "Team Green/G&S Racing is a Kawasaki Motors UK supported team and we will be one of the first teams in the country to receive, develop and test the new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. My main aim is to be pushing for regular top 10 finishes with the hope of achieving top five. I also intend to once again contest the North West 200 road races in Northern Ireland; practice takes place throughout the week with racing set for Saturday, May 21.

It's all looking good and with testing scheduled for Valencia in Spain at the start of March as part of the official Kawasaki/Bitubo suspension test I can't wait to get my season started. I have already begun my pre-season fitness training to ensure that I am in good shape and ready for my first race with the new team."
